I had an endless supply and am starting to run out of their Ultimate Nighttime Moisturizer. Visited sephora.com and they no longer have the brand available! I may just order online but… what’s your favorite moisturizer?
Here is the cover and spread of Papercut’s March 2012 issue where I styled hair and makeup on the beautiful Marcelina of New York Models. Shot by Alvin Nguyen and styled by Lisa Smith Craig… and cannot forget to thank my always amazing assistant Veronika Robova! What an amazing shoot.. at a very cool location (Open House Gallery NYC).
Special thanks to the awesome team at Papercut!
March 2012 - Papercut Magazine - Cover and Inside Editorial/Feature Story (p 18-31)
Hair & Makeup - Johnny Gonzalez / Photographer - Alvin Nguyen / Styling - Lisa Smith Craig (LSC Styling) / Model - Marcelina at New York Models / Location - Open House Gallery (NYC)
One of my recent beauty tests was with photographer Alvin Nguyen. Alvin is a phenomenally talented photographer who I work with and we collaborated on this beauty shoot as well as an editorial both featuring the gorgeous Marcelina Sowa @ New York Models. It was such a pleasure to style her hair and makeup; she was friendly and easy to work with, and does a great job on set!
For this shoot, I kept the beauty extremley clean: soft, clean foundation. Highlighting on Marcelina’s beautiful bone structure and around her eyes. Sleek hair. In one look I added a pop of color and a structural hair style to switch it up. Styling by the fabulous Francis Urrutia. Enjoy!
It has been quite some time since I have updated my blog, and to all of my readers I apologize for not keeping you updated! The past several months have been quite hectic and exciting, full of editorials that I am excited to share with you all, along with moving into a brand new home and of course, the New Year! I hope 2012 brings everyone all the happiness, success and love that they wish for. Keep an eye out, over the next few days I will be showing you what I’ve been up to while I’ve been gone!
I am happy to share a few shots from my new editorial featured in Papercut Magazine’s September 2011 issue. The full spread can be viewed in the Editorial Section of my website, http://jsgonzalez.com/editorial.html

Very proud to share with you a new editorial where I styled hair and makeup for Papercut Magazine’s September 2011 Issue. The story, titled “Beneath the Shadows” was shot by amazing photographer An Le; My assistant Veronika Robova did an excellent job helping me with the models on set and the entire team did a wonderful job coming together for the shoot. This story does feature some nudity, so please be aware before opening the link. Enjoy!
I recently ordered some new items for my kit from @The_Real_IMAN @IMANcosmetics line and the products arrived last night. I tried everything out on @celitheactress and am in LOVE with this line! Iman has hit the nail right on the head; from the blushes to the powders to the lipsticks, each product delivers. Although I have always made due with different cosmetic lines on women of darker complexions, Iman’s line is specifically catered towards darker skin tones and effortlessly highlights the natural beauty in women of color in a way that many other lines cannot even compete with.
Normally, I would have to blend shades or be extra careful to avoid that troublesome “ashy” look that can sometimes appear when using other products on darker skin tones, but this was not the case with @IMANcosmetics. I am really happy with the results and will definitely be purchasing more of the line to use for upcoming weddings, shoots and personal clients!
I purchased my Iman cosmetics at http://www.ulta.com/; you can also find them at http://www.target.com at very affordable prices ($7.99 - $15.99! Be sure to check out the blushing powders, they leave a beautiful glowing finish that can’t be beat!
I previously posted a behind the scenes photo of a beauty shoot that I conceptualized and styled hair and makeup for. Now, I am ready to share the final photos with you! I call the story “Muted Damsels”; my idea was to create highly structured hairstyles that alluded to different periods/eras paired with a romantic, fresh makeup look. You can check out the full set of photos at my website: www.jsgonzalez.com/beauty - Enjoy!
I am very proud of this beauty shoot that I just added to my portfolio; you can check out the rest of the shoot on my website at www.jsgonzalez.com/beauty . I detailed how I created the caps that you see on the model in a previous entry (click here to see/read it) and am excited to finally show you guys the final results!
Mariana, founder of SoulandChic, provides readers with a unique lifestyle blog that informs readers about fashion and beauty products. She recently stopped by one of my shoots here in NYC to check things out and was able to pick my assistant’s brain as well as snap some behind the scenes shots! Check out the post here and definitely follow her for a fresh and fabulous take on “fashion, inner and outer beauty, and all things inspirational.”
On Thursday evening, I had the pleasure of seeing my good friend and esteemed colleague Francelli Chapman in her leading role as Juanita in Blues for Mister Charlie. The play was phenomenal and I encourage everyone to go check it out. I was so moved by the powerful actors and actresses, the wonderful production and dedication that it took from each cast member that I decided to offer my hair and makeup services for their opening night. I was really impressed by everyone’s performances and believed that hair and makeup styling would add to the already amazing production.
Tomorrow is opening night, and I am very excited! I just finished putting together a set of inspiration photos and wanted to share them with you. I will be styling 10 cast member’s hair and makeup in the 1950’s set production; my wonderfully talented assistant will be coming to help me get them ready!

I just finished working on actress Francelli Chapman’s hair and makeup for her performance on stage tonight in Blues for Mister Charlie here in NYC. The show will be running through July, and Francelli has the female lead; The role is quite demanding and the plot is based on a true story that takes place in 1955; she plays a young student in the south that falls in love and goes through an incredible, emotional story.
To create Francelli’s character’s look, I dug inspiration from popular women’s hairstyles in the 50’s and added a touch of sophistication and romance to it. Makeup was natural and I used neutral tones with subtle highlights and a touch of rosy colors to tie in with the sophistication and romantic feel that I wanted to give her.
Break a leg, Francelli! To learn more about the show please click here and purchase your tickets by clicking here. Running from Jun 23, 2011 through Jul 17, 2011. You can follow Francelli on twitter by clicking here.
I’m proud to share this recent fashion video where I styled hair and makeup to help bring alive a strong and intriguing concept. The concept of the video, titled “Polluted”, was to show how pollution in nature would juxtapose against the backdrop of fashion and beauty. The video, featured on the School of Visual Arts’ (SVA) Magazine website, was directed by Lindsay Adler and styled by Lisa Smith Craig. My amazing team and I are pleased with the results and hope you enjoy it! Please feel free to visit my website www.jsgonzalez.com to check out my portfolio where I have styled hair and makeup in all of the photos. You can even check out a few photos from this video under the Beauty tab!
